Death or Glory – En kväll för Joe Strummer

22 dec markerar årsdagen då Joe Strummer, The Clash legendariska sångare
och frontman, tragiskt gick bort 2002. Vi hyllar minnet av Joe med en
kväll till hans ära. Vi lyssnar på musik från hans karriär och på scen
står Backlash som framför the Clash odödliga låtar.

Joe Strummer (1952-2002):
As frontman and songwriter of the Clash, Joe Strummer created some of
the fieriest, most passionate punk rock – and, indeed, rock & roll – of
all time. Strummer expanded punk’s musical palette with his fondness for
reggae and early rock & roll, and his signature bellow lent an
impassioned urgency to the political sloganeering that filled some of
his best songs. After the Clash disbanded in 1986 in the wake of the
album Cut the Crap, Strummer sporadically pursued film acting while also
contributing music to films by Alex Cox, and released a solo album,
Earthquake Weather, in 1989. After walking away from music for several
years, a reinvigorated Strummer returned at the end of the ’90s with a
new group the Mescaleros, cutting a trio of albums that fused rock &
roll with a variety of flavors of world music.

Backlash – a Clash Tribute:
Backlash hyllar The Clash – ett av tidernas största rockband med hits
som ”London Calling”, ”Train in Vain” & ”Should I Stay or Should I Go”.
Medlemmarna i Backlash kommer själva från den svenska punk/ny
våg/romantics-scenen med en bakgrund i band som Strindbergs, Scratch,
Ubangi, Lustans Lakejer mm. Backlash försöker inte imitera rollerna i
the Clash utan vill istället förmedla känslan av ”the only band that
mattered” och framföra musiken så nära originalet som möjligt.
Repertoaren spänner över alla album men har en tonvikt på de tre första.

be the best tribute band to The Clash that ever existed. Everyone in the
band nails it, and with feeling. The choice of songs is impeccable, and
Peder Brink manages to sound exactly like Joe Strummer, Mick Jones AND
Paul Simonon (he must have been breastfed Clash singles or something).
I actually find it hard to believe that The Clash ever sounded THIS good
live.”
